On Sunday, Melania Trump broke her silence on Twitter in the wake of Joe Biden’s election victory, by backing President Donald Trump's claims of electoral fraud and supporting him in his legal fight that lies ahead.

“The American people deserve fair elections. Every legal - not illegal - vote should be counted. We must protect our democracy with complete transparency.” Melania tweeted.

The tweet marks the first post from the first lady since Biden was declared the winner of the 2020 election by networks and news agencies.

At least seven lawsuits have been filed since election day to challenge the ballot counts, Bloomberg reported.

Despite many of Trump’s inner circle of family members have largely remained conspicuously quiet online for hours following the announcement, the president continued to personally hit out on Twitter against supposed fraud and election meddling in swing states that he claims cost him his victory on Sunday morning.
