Google is going to merge the two popular audio and video calling platforms; Duo and Meets into one app this year.

The platforms will be merged in a two-step process. First, Duo will have all the features of Meets, a step that will take place in the coming weeks. Second, the audio platform will be renamed Google Meets later this year.

"In the coming weeks, we're adding all the Google Meet features to the Duo app, so users can easily schedule a video meeting at a time that works for everyone, or continue using video calling to instantly connect with a person or group," the statement read.

In addition, the company said: "Later this year, we'll rename the Duo app to Google Meet, our single video communications service across Google that is available to everyone at no cost."

This should not affect users as they will be able to use both applications until Google discontinues Google Meets.

Last month, Google introduced new features for Chromebooks to make it easier for its users to take notes among other things.

The new features will make it easy for users to capture, edit and organize handwritten notes on their Chromebook. They can also sketch out drawings, or paste images within notes.

“In the coming months we’ll also introduce features for more personalization, like more easily changing the thickness, style, and color of the stylus stroke,” said Google in a blog post.

“You can make it larger if you want to see more zoomed-in content, or smaller if you want to see more of the standard screen. You can adapt it to fit your preferences, or adjust based on the content you’re looking at,” the company added.
