Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev mocked British Prime Minister Liz Truss' poor performance in office, joking that she deserved a Nobel Prize for collapsing the national economy.
"The Nobel Prize in economics for the speediest destruction of the national finance system should be awarded to Truss," Medvedev wrote on his Telegram channel.
Earlier, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) announced that the inflation rate in the UK, fueled by hiking food prices, rose to 10.1% year-on-year (YoY) in September. In August the figure was 9.9%, marking the highest record in 40 years.
Truss, 47, became the 56th UK prime minister and the third female to head the cabinet after Margaret Thatcher (who led the government from 1979 to 1990) and Theresa May (2016-2019).
She announced her resignation following weeks of criticism from her opponents and members of her own Conservative Party and the resignation of two of her top Cabinet picks.
The female official indicated that she will remain as prime minister until a successor is chosen. She stated that she came into office at a time of great economic instability and was elected with a mandate for change, but, "I recognize though I cannot deliver the mandate."
