Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev affirmed that Moscow’s response to Kyiv’s strikes at Crimea or any other Russian region "deep" inside the country will be hard and convincing.
In a written interview for Nadana Fridrikhson, Medvedev said: "Our response can be any. The President of Russia said it quite definitively."
The former leader highlighted that Russia sets no restrictions for itself, taking into account the nature of threats. It can use all kinds of weapons "in accordance with our doctrinal documents, including the Basic Principles of nuclear deterrence."
"I can assure you: the response will be swift, hard, and convincing," the Russian official added.
The Kremlin recently slammed "hoax" media reports that the US CIA Director William Burns had travelled to Moscow with a secret peace proposal that involved Ukraine ceding a fifth of its territory to Russia.
"Donbass is not fully protected yet, so the special military operation is continuing. Actually, we must protect the people who live there," Russian Presidential Spokesman Peskov said when asked if these territories were protected well enough and if the Kremlin saw Kyiv’s statement as a threat.
“For now, this goal has not been fully achieved. This is still to be done,” he added, noting that "the security of Crimea is ensured reliably."
