The Muslim Council of Elders affirmed on Wednesday that honoring and safeguarding the rights of the elderly is both a human and moral duty, marking the observance of the International Day of Older Persons.
The council, headquartered in Abu Dhabi, issued a statement underscoring the vital importance of respect, care, and protection for older people across the world. The affirmation aligns with the international focus of the day, which highlights the contributions of older people and raises awareness of the issues and challenges of aging.
The message stressed that the principles of Islam mandate the utmost reverence and care for parents and older members of society.
"Respecting our elders and safeguarding their rights is a human and moral duty," the council stated, calling on communities globally to ensure older persons live in dignity and are fully integrated into social life.
The International Day of Older Persons is observed annually on October 1st.
