The Muslim Council of Elders marked the 12th anniversary of its establishment, highlighting more than a decade of efforts to promote peace, dialogue and the values of tolerance and human fraternity worldwide.
The council was founded on July 19, 2014, corresponding to 21 Ramadan 1435 AH, under the leadership of Ahmed Al-Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, and includes a group of prominent scholars and public figures from across the Muslim world.
Since its founding, the council has launched a range of international initiatives and programs aimed at strengthening coexistence, countering extremist ideologies and hate speech, and correcting misconceptions about Islam. It has also worked to promote moderate thought and build bridges of dialogue and understanding among different cultures and religions.
The council said its efforts also focus on supporting the role of religious leaders in addressing global challenges and advancing the principles of peace, tolerance and human fraternity through publications, conferences and joint initiatives worldwide.
