The Muslim Council of Elders on Monday extended congratulations to Ahmed Al‑Tayeb, the Grand Imam of Al‑Azhar, as well as to its scholars, students, alumni and supporters worldwide, marking the 1,086th Hijri anniversary of the institution’s founding.
In a statement, the council praised Al-Azhar as a historic center of learning and religious guidance that has, for centuries, promoted moderation, balance and enlightened human thought.
The council said it takes pride in Al-Azhar’s global role in advancing dialogue, tolerance and human fraternity, countering extremist ideologies and building bridges of understanding among nations.
It concluded by wishing that Al-Azhar continue to serve as a beacon of knowledge and a message of coexistence and peace for generations to come.
