The Muslim Council of Elders, chaired by Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, on Tuesday expressed condolences and solidarity with Iraq following a deadly bridge collapse in Karbala.
The council said the incident, which occurred at a bridge under construction, left several people dead and injured.
In a statement, the body extended sympathy to the Iraqi government and people, praying for patience and comfort for the families of the victims and a swift recovery for those wounded.
The council, based in Abu Dhabi, frequently issues messages of support and solidarity in the aftermath of humanitarian tragedies across the Muslim world.
