The Muslim Council of Elders condemned the continued closure of the Al-Aqsa Mosque to worshippers by Israeli authorities, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement, the council — chaired by Ahmed Al-Tayeb — described the measures as a “flagrant violation” of freedom of worship and a provocation to Muslims worldwide.
The council rejected restrictions that hinder worshippers from accessing Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Old City of Jerusalem, calling on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities.
It urged global actors to work toward halting violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and to ensure respect for freedom of worship while safeguarding the sanctity of sacred places.
