The Muslim Council of Elders, chaired by Ahmed Al-Tayeb, condemned the entry of Israeli settlers into Al-Aqsa Mosque under police protection and the raising of the Israeli flag inside the mosque compound.
In a statement, the council described the actions as provocative violations and rejected what it called attempts to alter the historical, religious and legal status of Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The council urged the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities and take immediate measures to halt repeated violations at the holy site.
It also reaffirmed support for the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent state, with Jerusalem as its capital, and called for efforts to preserve the city’s religious and historical identity.
