The Muslim Council of Elders (MCE) marked the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women by issuing a powerful statement equating digital abuse with physical violence. The Council declared that online harassment, blackmail, and hate speech targeting women constitute a "blatant assault" on their fundamental human rights and dignity.
Stressing the urgency of creating safer digital environments, the MCE called on the public to actively reject participation in digital violence. The statement emphasized the need to build a society that supports women's presence and rights, affirming that this goal aligns perfectly with the core tenets of Islam, which honors women as mothers, sisters, and wives, and mandates their full protection.
The MCE’s affirmation serves as a religious and moral imperative to safeguard women from all forms of exploitation and harm, particularly in the ever-expanding online sphere.
