McDonald's is experiencing a disruption in many parts of the Asia-Pacific region, resulting in customers being unable to order in its stores, as well as from electronic platforms and mobile applications.
A computer system malfunction caused the problem, and customers are being advised to order directly from staff at store counters, the fast food giant said in a statement on its Hong Kong website on Friday.
According to the statement, a company spokesperson in Japan said they were unsure how long the problem would last, while restaurants in Taiwan suspended phone and online ordering due to maintenance work.
The problem is spreading across the region, according to media reports. The Hong Kong Economic Times newspaper indicated that operations in parts of the Chinese mainland were also affected by this disruption.
At the same time, the New Zealand Herald newspaper reported that stores were unable to receive orders, and Australian station News 7 indicated that restaurants across the country were affected.
