Mayar Sherif Reaches Charleston Tennis Tournament's Semi-Finals

Egyptian tennis player Mayar Sherif, World's number 164, qualified Friday evening to the semi-finals of the Charleston Open US tennis tournament after defeating Romanian Gabriela Talabă by two sets to one.

The Egyptian star beat her Romanian rival Talabă in the quarter-final, where the Romanian player won the first set (6-1) , before Sherif drew the score and settled the second group in her favor with a score of (6-3) , then ended the match in her favor after winning the second and decisive set with a score of (6-3).

Sherif will meet, Saturday, in the semi-finals of the Charleston championship, the Japanese 85th-ranked Misaki Doi who had beaten her US rival Ann Li, ranked 100th globally.

Sherif also managed to qualify for the final match in the doubles competition, accompanied by fellow Australian Astra Sharma.

It is worth noting that the Egyptian star, qualified for the Tokyo Olympics 2020, which was postponed until next year, due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
