Mauritania has committed $300,000 in humanitarian aid to Gaza, reaffirming its steadfast support for the Palestinian people amid their ongoing crisis.

The announcement was made by Mauritanian Foreign Minister, Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug, during his speech at the Cairo Ministerial Conference on Strengthening Humanitarian Response for Gaza on Monday.

Ould Merzoug stressed the urgent need for immediate and effective international action to end the brutal assault on Gaza and alleviate the continuous suffering of the Palestinian people.

He called for enhanced humanitarian efforts and the delivery of aid to the region, praising the critical role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in providing essential services to refugees.

The Mauritanian Foreign Minister also lauded the efforts of Egypt and other countries in supporting Palestine, urging further international mobilization to ease the hardships faced by Palestinians, particularly those in Gaza.

He emphasized that peace and stability in the region could only be achieved through the recognition of the Palestinian people's inalienable rights, including their right to self-determination, the establishment of an independent state based on the 1967 borders, and East Jerusalem as its capital.

Ould Merzoug described the situation in Gaza as the "greatest hardship" in Palestinian modern history.

He highlighted the ongoing genocidal war in the region, which has claimed over 44,000 lives, the majority being women, children, and the elderly, while also causing widespread destruction to infrastructure and essential services.

He reiterated that Israel, as the occupying power, bears full legal and moral responsibility for the grave crimes and violations committed in Gaza and other occupied Palestinian territories.

Ould Merzoug stressed that while Israel is accountable for these actions, the international community also has a responsibility to uphold international peace and security and support the Palestinian people in their humanitarian struggle.
