The official government spokesperson and Minister of Transport in Mauritania, Nanai Ould Chroukha, has affirmed that his country has no intention of establishing diplomatic relations with Israel.
During a press conference held in Nouakchott on Thursday following a Cabinet meeting, Ould Chroukha stated that the government has no plans to establish diplomatic relations with Israel, emphasizing that it is "not in our political references."
He went on to say that discussions of Mauritania voting against escalatory measures during the Arab Summit in Riyadh against Israel are nothing more than "rumors."
He added that this type of news has recently surfaced, but Mauritania remains steadfast in its support for the Palestinian cause, a stance expressed by the President, the government, and the people on various occasions.
Reports in Israeli media about Mauritania voting alongside Arab countries against escalatory resolutions against Israel have sparked significant debate within the Mauritanian community and widespread criticism of the government.
According to US and Israeli media outlets, Mauritania, which is aligned with the United Arab Emirates, was reportedly on the verge of normalizing relations with Israel, a claim that the government denies.
