The Mauritania FA have announced the appointment of Comorian manager Amir Abdou as the new head coach of the national team.
Mauritania had appointed Didier Gomes at the end of last year, in hopes that he would guide them to a respectable finish in their second-ever AFCON appearance.
While it seemed that the Frenchman was going to stay with Al-Murabitun, the Mauritanian FA announced his departure on Wednesday night.
His replacement was announced less than 24 hours later and it was revealed to be former Comoros manager Amir Abdou. Abdou took charge of Comoros in January 2014, after a brief stint with Entente Golfech, making him the longest serving coach in Africa. In 45 games in charge, Abdou managed to win on 11 occasions, drawing 16 times and losing 20 games.
