The Russian Ministry of Defense reported a significant escalation in aerial warfare on Saturday, claiming that its air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 124 Ukrainian drones across multiple regions during the night.
According to a statement carried by the TASS news agency, the drones were "fixed-wing" unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) launched in a coordinated effort to strike various targets within Russian territory. Among the intercepted craft, at least one was reportedly neutralized while on a direct flight path toward the capital, Moscow.
The Ministry provided a detailed breakdown of the shoot-downs by region:
Bryansk: 29 drones
Oryol: 15 drones
Belgorod: 11 drones
Ryazan: 9 drones
Kaluga: 8 drones
Voronezh: 7 drones
Kursk, Rostov, and Volgograd: 6 drones each
Crimea: 6 drones
Tula and Samara: 5 drones each
Lipetsk and Moscow Region: 3 drones each
Saratov and Ulyanovsk: 2 drones each
Ivanovo: 1 drone
The defensive operation underscores the expanding scale of drone warfare in the ongoing conflict. While Russia maintains that all 124 threats were successfully neutralized, the volume of the attack highlights Ukraine's growing capability to strike deep into Russian infrastructure.
No immediate reports of casualties or significant structural damage were provided by the Ministry following the debris falls.
