A man in Massachusetts has been arrested after allegedly posting multiple death threats against US President Donald Trump on Facebook, federal prosecutors said.
Authorities identified the suspect as Andrew Emerald, 45, who is accused of publishing eight separate posts between May and July last year, threatening to kill or harm Trump.
According to prosecutors, the suspect vowed to track down the president and target his residence at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, using violent language in his online messages.
The arrest took place at his home in Great Barrington, a small town in western Massachusetts. Court documents state that the suspect initially resisted arrest by brandishing a sword before surrendering to FBI agents.
A search of the residence uncovered multiple weapons, including knives, swords, and a sickle.
Emerald has been charged with transmitting threats across state lines, a federal offense that carries a penalty of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The case comes amid a series of similar incidents involving online threats against Trump. In a separate case, a Virginia man was sentenced in March to more than two years in prison for making death threats against the president.
Trump himself survived an assassination attempt in July 2024, when a gunman opened fire during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
