Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) , has welcomed the announcement of a temporary ceasefire, expressing hope that it could serve as a decisive step toward ending the conflict and advancing peace and freedom in Iran.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Rajavi hailed the cessation of attacks on infrastructure and civilian facilities, describing it as the most appropriate decision at a highly sensitive moment. She emphasized that the core principle of the Iranian Resistance and its proposed transitional framework has consistently been rooted in the pursuit of peace and freedom.
Rajavi voiced optimism that the 15-day ceasefire could evolve into a lasting cessation of hostilities, paving the way for a broader political resolution, despite what she described as resistance from factions associated with both the current Iranian leadership and remnants of the former regime.
Reaffirming the opposition’s long-standing position, she argued that durable peace can only be achieved through fundamental political transformation, including the end of the current system of clerical rule and the establishment of a democratic republic reflecting the will of the Iranian people.
She also stressed the importance of integrating human rights provisions into any future international agreement, calling in particular for an immediate halt to executions in Iran, which she described as a central demand of the population.
The statement comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to de-escalate regional tensions, with opposition groups continuing to press for a comprehensive political solution that addresses both governance and human rights concerns.
