Sky Sports has confirmed that a Greek court has issued a ruling against Manchester United captain Harry Maguire.
The network reported that a Greek court issued a new ruling related to an incident that occurred more than five years ago on the island of Mykonos, in which Maguire was involved. The court sentenced the English defender to 15 months in prison, suspended, after a retrial that included charges of non-serious assault, resisting arrest, and attempted bribery.
The report added that the initial sentence was issued in 2020 and was harsher (21 months suspended), but it was reduced in this session while maintaining the suspended status, which means that he will not actually go to prison as long as no new violations occur. In contrast, Maguire denies the charges against him in their entirety, and his legal team has confirmed its intention to appeal to a higher court in Greece, a procedure that cancels – according to Greek law – the execution of the current sentence until the appeal is decided.
