Public Prosecution ordered, on Thursday, 26 November, the detention of a suspect accused of deliberately killing a woman by setting her on fire in Alexandria, in retaliation for accusing him of theft.

The Public Prosecution received a report from a person in the Mandara Police Department in Alexandria Governorate, on November 21, that the accused man killed a woman through setting her on fire.

In conducting investigations about the incident, it is believed to be that the accused poured petroleum on the victim and set her on fire, intending to kill her in retaliation for her testimony against him in a robbery incident that he had committed.

The surveillance cameras around the scene of the accident captured footage of the accused man, buying the material and heading directly it to the victim's residence.

Upon receiving the report and investigating, the Public Prosecution moved to the victim's residence to inspect it, finding the effects of a fire, and meeting two children who witnessed the incident.

The two children claimed that the accused man knocked the door of the residence and opened it, pushing one of them and walking directly to the victim's room with a plastic bottle containing a liquid substance that he poured on the victim, dragging her to the door of the house, setting her on fire, and fleeing.

The man confessed his crimes during investigations, mentioning that he has committed the incident, intending to kill the victim in retaliation for accusing him of committing a robbery incident in which his accusation was not proven.

On November 25, the Public Prosecution office was notified of the victim's death due to her deep wounds. It ordered the suspect’s detention for four days in preventive detention pending investigations, on the other hand, the competent court decided to continue imprisonment for another 15 days.
