According to his relatives, an Indiana man died in Puerto Rico after falling down a cliff while attempting to record a TikTok video.

According to a US Coast Guard press release, Edgar Garay, 27, of Indiana, died on January 29 after falling down a 70-foot coastal cliff close to the Cabo Rojo lighthouse while on a leisurely day excursion to Puerto Rico's southwest coast.

Garay's body was discovered the next day by a Puerto Rico Emergency Dive Unit after the fall was reported to the Coast Guard that evening.

According to CNN station WTHR, Edgar's brother, Carlos Garay, described his sibling as a "daredevil." Carlos claimed that at the time, a cousin had taken his brother on a tour of the cliffs even though he was not in Puerto Rico.

Carlos remarked, "My brother loves to upload movies to his TikTok account." "Unfortunately, he was trying to accomplish it when he should have been farther away from the edge."

In order to pay for the costs of returning his brother's body to Indiana, Carlos has established a legitimate GoFundMe account.

He stated in the fundraiser's description that "our family is now on a quest to bring our darling sibling home so that he can be laid to rest among friends and relatives."

In the release, Coast Guard representatives also offered Garay's family their condolences.

Captain José E. Dáz, head of the Coast Guard Sector San Juan, stated in a statement, "We extend our deepest sympathies to Edgar Garay's family and loved ones and wish they find comfort and courage during this most trying time.

We applaud the efforts of all Puerto Rico Police, Coast Guard, and partner agency emergency responders, particularly the dive team from the Puerto Rico Emergency Management Bureau that was able to find Mr. Garay's body in such a difficult-to-reach location.
