Raheem Sterling has become a target for Chelsea this summer, with the Manchester City winger having previously been linked with a move to Real Madrid.
"It's a bit of surprise," said the Daily Telegraph's Luke Edwards to Sky Sports.
"I thought Raheem would go off to play in Spain for the lifestyle choices. He's 27 and won everything you could possibly win in England, apart from the Champions League. I always thought going abroad was part of the plan.
"He's from London and Chelsea have got the money, They have a £200m budget this summer.
"I thought Sterling would run down his contract, but if City want to sell and get the money back this summer then Chelsea are one the clubs who can get it done.
