Authorities in San Francisco have charged a 20-year-old suspect in connection with an alleged assassination attempt targeting Sam Altman, the chief executive of OpenAI.
District Attorney Brooke Jenkins announced Monday that Daniel Moreno Gama faces multiple charges, including attempted murder of Altman and attempted murder of a security officer.
The charges stem from an incident on April 10, when the suspect allegedly threw an incendiary device at the gate of Altman’s residence.
Police said Moreno Gama was arrested shortly afterward near OpenAI’s headquarters, where he allegedly made threats to set the company’s offices on fire.
Federal Bureau of Investigation officials emphasized the seriousness of the case. Matt Kubo, the acting special agent in charge of the FBI’s San Francisco field office, described the incident as a deliberate and highly dangerous act, underscoring concerns over targeted threats against high-profile technology leaders.
The case highlights growing security risks facing executives in the tech sector, as law enforcement agencies continue to investigate the motives behind the attack.
