Man Arrested Near US Embassy in Tokyo Carrying Knife

A man was arrested near the United States Embassy in Tokyo on Friday after being found carrying a knife, according to reports from Japan’s TBS News.

Police sources said a member of the riot control unit was injured during the incident, though the extent of the injury remains unclear. Authorities have yet to determine the motive behind the attack.

The incident occurred just days before the scheduled visit of US President Donald Trump to Japan. During his visit from October 27 to 29, Trump is expected to meet Emperor Naruhito and the newly elected Prime Minister, Sanae Takaichi.

Earlier this week, Japan’s Kyodo News reported that Tokyo Metropolitan Police had deployed up to 18,000 additional security personnel to strengthen safety measures ahead of the visit.
