The famous British Broadcasting Corporation the BBC announced its 2020 100 Women List a few days ago. The list included the two influential and inspiring Egyptian women Maggie Gobran also known as Mama Maggie and Nadeen Ashraf.
Mama Maggie was awarded The International Prize for Women of Courage during the International Women’s Day back in March for her commitment to serve the poor in her community, realizing value of those seeking vocational training in order to contribute to society and providing economic salvation for impoverished children in her country.
Gobran is the founder and CEO of the Stephen’s Children non-profit charity that provide food, clothes, mentoring, and education to the young children in Egypt. She was also nominated for a Noble Peace Prize in 2012.
Ashraf was the pushing force behind the viral #Metoo movement against the sexual harasser Ahmed Bassam Zaki with her anonymous Instagram page @assaultpolice.
Ashraf created her Instagram page after seeing a post on Facebook warning women and young girls of a manipulative young man from a rich family, alleged to be blackmailing women at the American University in Cairo (AUC). The page soon gained a lot of followers more than 700 thousand followers and was initially the encouraging force that pushed the victims to come forward and report Zaki.
It is worth mentioning that Ashraf’s page was also the force behind the flaring of the second high profile sexual assault case the Fairmont Crime.
