Today, Saturday, the electricity was cut off in all parts of Sudan due to a malfunction in the Merowe Dam, located in the northern state of Sudan on the island of Meroe.

And the Sudanese newspaper, Al-Rakuba, reported that the malfunction in the Merowe Dam caused a comprehensive outage of electricity in large parts of the country.

The Sudanese newspaper added that the Merowe Dam feeds most of Sudan's regions, meanwhile a number of cities and regions rely on thermal generation energy."

The electricity sector in Sudan is suffering from collapse and a lack of periodic maintenance operations after the financial subsides were cut following the events of October 25, 2021, and the necessary aid that was on its way to Sudan to save the sector was stopped.

And Sudanese sources confirmed, last September, that there was a power outage in a number of government buildings and strategic headquarters in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, due to a workers' strike, to demand an increase in wages.

The sources said, in statements to "Sputnik", a Russian news agency, that some government and strategic sites were cut off from electricity.
