Nabila Makram Abd ElShahid, Minister of Immigration and Egyptian Affairs Abroad, welcomed Mr. Shehab ElDin Adam Shah, the charge d’Affaires of the Malaysian Ambassador in Cairo and Mrs. Nour Hafiza Bnt Jafar, the First Secretary in the Embassy.
They will discuss the complaints of a number of Egyptian students in Malaysia.
The Malaysian Immigration Department had announced its refusal to renew the students’ visa and ordered the students to leave the country before 10th December.
Makram welcomed the charge d’Affaires and his escort Mrs. Nour to ensure the good relations between the Egyptian and Malaysian people.
About 75 Egyptian students have the same issue as a number of them were deported back to Egypt.
Makram explained that the Ministry received a huge number of complaints from the students’ families. Most of the concerned students are working on their graduation projects in the different engineering fields.
The minister hailed the strong Egyptian Malaysian relations and confirmed her confidence in the Malaysian officials who will no doubt solve the students’ issue.
She pointed out to the Ministry’s efforts to help Egyptians in different countries.
The Malaysian Immigration Department informed the students that their deportation is due to their low attendance ratio.
The minister added that the students didn’t know about the attendance ratio required to renew their visas. She also defended that the students were committed to the attendance ratio required by their universities and achieved the accumulative rates required by the Malaysian Immigration Department.
Mr. Adam Shah explained that he‘d contact the Malaysian authorities to work on finding a solution to the issue at hand.
He said that about 17 thousand Malaysian students are studying in 7 Egyptian Universities while about 4 thousand Egyptian students are studying in Malaysia.
He also confirmed the cooperation with the ministry of Immigration to solve the students’ issue.
The Charge d’Affaires vowed to contact the authorities in Malaysia and the Ministry of Education to solve the issue and to inform future students of the rules required to renew their visas.
Makram requested the Charge d’Affaires to rethink about the deportation of Egyptian students, pointing to the strong relations between Egypt and Malasyia.
