Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced on Tuesday that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), currently chaired by Malaysia, is taking a firm stance in support of a long-term ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Speaking at a press conference, Anwar emphasized ASEAN's commitment to peace and stability in the region, stating that the bloc is resolute in its backing of efforts to end hostilities in Gaza.

He also pledged Malaysia's full support for reconstruction initiatives aimed at rebuilding the war-torn area.

“Our stance is clear—ASEAN stands united in supporting a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza. We believe in the necessity of long-term peace and stability for the welfare of the people,” Anwar said.

The Prime Minister reiterated Malaysia's commitment to providing maximum support for reconstruction efforts in Gaza, highlighting the importance of international cooperation in rebuilding infrastructure and ensuring humanitarian aid reaches those in need.

Anwar’s statement reflects Malaysia’s continued advocacy for peace in the Middle East and its active role within ASEAN to address global humanitarian issues.

The announcement comes amid ongoing international efforts to secure a durable ceasefire in Gaza following recent escalations.

Under Malaysia’s chairmanship, ASEAN has been vocal about the importance of peace and stability, not only within Southeast Asia but also in conflict zones worldwide. Anwar’s comments underline the bloc’s growing diplomatic influence and its commitment to humanitarian causes.

The international community, including ASEAN member states, has been urged to contribute to rebuilding efforts in Gaza, focusing on essential infrastructure such as housing, healthcare, and education. Malaysia’s pledge reinforces its humanitarian stance and commitment to international solidarity.

This firm position by Malaysia and ASEAN underscores the bloc’s dedication to promoting peace and supporting reconstruction efforts, reflecting its expanding role on the global stage.
