Malaysia has expressed its desire to join BRICS as a partner country, according to Malaysian Ambassador to Russia Cheong Loon Lai
The statement, reported by Russian news agency TASS, emphasizes Malaysia's commitment to becoming a new partner in BRICS.
Cheong highlighted that bilateral relations between Kuala Lumpur and Moscow "remain strong and sustainable" amidst Malaysia's aspirations to deepen ties with the BRICS bloc.
Earlier, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that Malaysia anticipates achieving partner country status in BRICS ahead of full membership due to "good relations" with current member states.
In March, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced discussions on a new category for "partner states" ahead of the BRICS summit scheduled for October in Kazan.
