Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has announced his country’s readiness to participate in United Nations peacekeeping operations in the Gaza Strip, marking a significant step in Malaysia’s ongoing support for international humanitarian efforts in the region.
According to Malaysia’s national news agency Bernama, Ibrahim stated that his government is prepared to contribute to global peace initiatives following the recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
He also revealed plans to hold a phone discussion with Egyptian authorities on Tuesday to coordinate the delivery of humanitarian and medical aid to Gaza through the Rafah border crossing.
This announcement comes shortly after the peace summit held in Egypt’s Sharm El-Sheikh, where an agreement to end hostilities between Israel and Hamas was reached under the joint mediation of the United States, Egypt, and Qatar.
The ceasefire brought an end to nearly two years of conflict that claimed tens of thousands of civilian lives in Gaza and caused massive destruction across the enclave’s infrastructure.
Under the newly signed peace agreement, both sides have committed to a full cessation of hostilities and to the implementation of a multi-phase peace plan.
The plan includes the release of prisoners, the return of displaced residents, and the launch of a comprehensive reconstruction program under international supervision.
