Malaysia has called for a comprehensive framework agreement between the United States and Iran to ensure the consolidation of the existing ceasefire and secure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, emphasizing the importance of considering the legitimate security interests of all countries in the region.

In a post on his official Facebook account on Sunday, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed optimism regarding the ongoing developments in the negotiations.

He highlighted the "constructive" role played by several nations in facilitating diplomatic efforts, including Egypt, Jordan, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates.

Furthermore, Malaysian Prime Minister (PM) welcomed the personal involvement of US President Donald Trump in seeking a negotiated outcome, expressing hope that all parties would seize this opportunity and successfully conclude the talks.

He stressed that Malaysia stands fully ready to support any multilateral effort that contributes to achieving lasting peace and stability in West Asia.

This comes amid reports indicating that the United States and Iran are on the verge of signing an agreement to extend the ceasefire for 60 days.

This step would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, allow Iran to resume oil sales, and provide an opportunity to negotiate Tehran's nuclear program.
