Chinese Premier Li Qiang said, Wednesday, that major powers must oppose the possibility of the beginning of "a new Cold War."

Qiang said: "Disagreements and disputes may arise between countries due to misperceptions, diverging interests or external interferences."

"To keep differences under control, what is essential now is to oppose picking sides, to oppose bloc confrontation and to oppose a new Cold War."

His remarks came after a meeting of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) leaders and top officials including US Vice President Kamala Harris to discuss a range of issues.

They also discussed a map that Beijing recently released which makes claims to most of the South China Sea over Tokyo's decision to release treated wastewater from the Fukushima nuclear power plant, along with discussing North Korea's ballistic missile launches.
