A large fire erupted on Tuesday at the Jannat Abad market in western Tehran, according to Iran’s Fars News Agency.

The blaze reportedly broke out minutes earlier in the densely populated Jannat Abad district, sending thick plumes of smoke into the air and drawing emergency services to the scene.

Tehran’s fire department confirmed that multiple firefighting units were deployed and are currently working to bring the fire under control.

Jalal Maleki, spokesperson for the Tehran Fire Department, told state television that the fire started in a local market area containing a large number of shops and street stalls.

“The fire is so large that it can be seen from several parts of the city,” Maleki said, highlighting the scale of the incident.

Authorities have not yet reported any casualties or the cause of the fire, and investigations are expected to begin once the blaze is contained.
