Mahmoud Yassin Battled Alzheimer’s Disease for 8 Years Before His Death

Veteran Egyptian actor, Mahmoud Yassin passed away Wednesday morning at the age of 79, after a struggle with disease.

The late actor's funeral prayer is set to be held tomorrow, Thursday at the Police Mosque in Sheikh Zayed after the noon prayer.

The last period of Yassin's life witnessed many rumors about his disease and death.

On August 4, the actor’s widow, former actress Shahira disclosed for the first time details about his disease with TV presenter Wael Elebrashy.

Shahira confirmed in a phone interview that Yassin was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for 8 years, noting that there was no cure or any improvement in his condition.

She stated that the last thing he remembered about the death of his colleagues was the death of Nour El-Sherif, who passed away in 2015.

“After that, I concealed the news of the death of his colleagues, which included the deaths of stars Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, and Farouk Al-Fishawi,” Shahira said.

She added that he remembers some of his colleagues that influenced his life , including late stars Mahmoud Abdel Aziz, Nadia Lotfi, and Ragaa Al-Geddawy, who spoke with her after he remembered her .

He was scheduled to participate in the 2014 TV series "Sahib Al-Saada" with Adel Emam but was unable to complete the production as he began suffering from disease and Alzheimer's.

Yassin made rare public and social media appearances in recent years. The late actor made his last appearance in February 2019, on social media in a photo with his grandson, Mahmoud, Amr Mahmoud Yassin's son.
