A rare Mahmoud Sa'id painting went under the hammer yesterday at the prestigious Bonham auction house.
The auctioned portrait depicted an Egyptian man with dark-colored skin praying. A running river, some buildings, and a shining night are reflected in the background of the man. It was sold for almost 1 million pounds.
It is not the first time that paintings by Said went on auction. Two years ago, six of his paintings were sold at the famous Christie's.
He is one of the most influential artists in the history of Egypt. He was born to an aristocratic family. His father was a prime minister and his cousin is Queen Farida.
However, all his paintings depicted various local Egyptian scenes such as "Banat Bahary", and "El Shadof."
