A magnitude 5.5 earthquake struck central Pakistan early Sunday, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).
The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, with its epicenter located approximately 149 kilometers west of Multan, a major city in Punjab province, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage, but residents in nearby towns reportedly felt strong tremors, prompting some to flee their homes in the early morning hours.
Pakistan lies in a seismically active region where earthquakes are common, particularly along the boundary between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation and assess potential aftershocks.
