Magnitude 4.7 Earthquake Strikes Iran's Khoy City

An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 has hit the city of Khoy in the north of West Azerbaijan Province, located in northwest Iran on Saturday evening.

According to the Iranian news agency, "IRNA", the National Earthquake Monitoring Center affiliated with the University of Tehran stated that the earthquake in Khoy reached a magnitude of 4.7 on the Richter scale.

The Iranian observatory confirmed that the earthquake incident in Khoy occurred at 4:43 in the afternoon, Saturday, pinpointing the epicenter of the earthquake at the intersection of 44.9 degrees north latitude and 38.51 degrees east longitude.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Baqer Honarbez, the Director-General of the East Azerbaijan Province's Emergency Department, said that residents of the provincial capital, Tabriz, felt the tremors of the earthquake that struck Khoy today.

Honarbez noted that despite the strong tremors reaching the province, the incident did not register any human or material losses. He added that rescue and relief teams were dispatched to the event site immediately after it happened.
