The Head of the National Institute for Astronomical Research in Egypt, Gad El-Kady, said that an earthquake had been recorded in southern Turkey, felt by residents of the Egyptian governorate of Damietta.
According to the Egyptian state-owned Al-Ahram Gate website, El Kadi noted that, "The stations of the National Seismic Network recorded an earthquake located in southern Turkey, 625 km north of Damietta, Monday evening.”
“The earthquake measured 3.9 on the Richter scale,” he added.
The head of the institute pointed out that "some citizens felt that earth tremor, while the institute did not receive any reports of any losses or injuries."
Damietta is a port city and the capital of the Damietta Governorate in Egypt. It is located at the Damietta branch, an eastern distributary of the Nile Delta, 15 kilometers from the Mediterranean Sea, about 200 kilometers north of Cairo.
