Global container shipping giant Maersk announced the launch of a new maritime service connecting key ports in the Adriatic Sea with destinations across the southeastern Mediterranean, including major Egyptian ports, in a move aimed at enhancing regional trade connectivity and supply-chain efficiency.
The Danish shipping company said the new service is designed to provide exporters and importers with greater flexibility, reliability, and faster transit times amid growing demand for predictable logistics solutions.
Under the new offering, Maersk will operate fixed weekly sailings, enabling customers to benefit from more consistent scheduling and improved visibility across supply chains. The company said the service is expected to support businesses seeking dependable transport links between the Eastern Mediterranean and the Adriatic region.
According to Maersk, the route is particularly well suited for fresh and perishable goods, providing a reliable transportation bridge for time-sensitive cargo moving in both directions between the two regions.
The Adriatic service will call at a series of strategically important ports, including Koper, Venice, Ancona, Haifa, Ashdod, Damietta, and Port Said, strengthening maritime links between European and Mediterranean markets.
The inclusion of Egypt’s Damietta and Port Said ports is expected to further reinforce the country's role as a regional logistics and transshipment hub, leveraging its strategic position along major international shipping corridors.
Maersk confirmed that the inaugural voyage of the new Adriatic service will be operated by the vessel MITO, voyage number 627S, with the first scheduled arrival at the Port of Koper on July 2.
