French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that his visit to Damascus is to "reaffirm France's commitment to standing alongside the Syrian people for a sovereign, unified Syria in its pluralism, enjoying peace with its neighbors," the German Press Agency (dpa) reported, citing "Syria TV."

Macron added, "Let us open together a new chapter of stability and peace," signaling Paris's desire to push toward a new phase in relations with Syria based on supporting the political process, enhancing stability, and engaging with various segments of Syrian society.

According to an official statement issued by the Élysée Palace, Macron is conducting a visit to Syria on July 6 and 7. This comes a year after Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa's visit to France.

The statement described it as the first visit by a European Union head of state to Syria since the fall of the Assad regime.

The Élysée confirmed that the visit serves as a continuation of "France's unwavering support for the Syrian people," noting that the French President will renew his country's commitment to Syria's unity and to the principle of an inclusive, pluralistic political transition that guarantees the rights, security, and representation of all segments of Syrian society.
