French President Emmanuel Macron has confirmed that he demanded Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to put an immediate end to attacks targeting countries in the region, whether carried out directly or through what he described as Iranian "proxies," warning of the consequences of escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Macron clarified that he informed Pezeshkian that attacks on regional states are "unacceptable" and must cease immediately as they threaten regional stability.
The French President noted that current movements are defensive in nature, aimed at protecting the interests of concerned nations and their partners, as well as ensuring the freedom of navigation in vital maritime corridors.
Furthermore, Macron emphasized that any new framework for regional security must guarantee that Iran does not possess a nuclear weapon under any circumstances, while also addressing threats related to its ballistic missile program.
The French President warned that uncontrolled escalation could push the entire Middle East toward chaos, resulting in grave consequences for international security and stability.
He stressed the urgent need to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, noting that ensuring peace requires a new political and security framework that achieves stability for all parties.
