French President Emmanuel Macron is prepared to start a foreign tour, which will take him to Romania and Moldova, neighboring Ukraine on Tuesday.
The Élysée Palace said that the French president would travel first to Romania and then to Moldova on Wednesday. The two visits were related to the threat posed by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Applications for EU membership submitted by Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia will also be discussed.
The European Union countries are scheduled to take a position on the candidacy status of the three countries at a summit to be held on June 23-24.
Macron visit French forces at the Kogălniceanu military base in Romania and will meet the county's President Klaus Iohannis there.
The Élysée Palace did not confirm reports that the French president would join German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi on a trip to Kyiv on Wednesday, but the palace said Macron planned to travel to Ukraine in time.
