French President Emmanuel Macron and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman jointly called for presidential elections in Lebanon during a meeting on Monday, following the implementation of a fragile ceasefire in the country.
A statement from Macron's office during his visit to Saudi Arabia stated:
"They jointly urged the holding of presidential elections in Lebanon to unite the Lebanese people and implement necessary reforms for the country's stability and security."
The focus has now shifted to the presidential election in Lebanon, deemed a priority after the ceasefire. However, consensus on a candidate remains elusive.
In response, Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri announced a parliamentary session scheduled for January 9 at 11:00 AM to elect a new president, as reported by the Lebanese News Agency.
