French President Emmanuel Macron, in a telephone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, restated France's unwavering commitment to assisting Iraq in its fight against ISIS. The Elysée Palace confirmed this commitment following the recent news of the deaths of three French soldiers in August.

During the call, Macron emphasized France's steadfast dedication as part of the international coalition, working alongside the Iraqi government, the Kurdistan Regional Government, and the Syrian Democratic Forces. The President also pledged ongoing humanitarian support, particularly for areas liberated from ISIS control, according to the French Presidency.

Simultaneously, the media office of the Iraqi Prime Minister released a statement regarding Al-Sudani's phone call with President Macron. The leaders discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and implement the strategic partnership agreement between the two countries. They focused on enhancing ties in various sectors, including economics, culture, security, and military cooperation. Notably, they addressed a deal involving the purchase of radars from the French company Thales, approved by the Iraqi Cabinet, aimed at improving Iraq's airspace control.

The statement also mentioned that the Iraqi Prime Minister expressed condolences to Macron for the loss of a French soldier who was involved in an operation against ISIS, with French military advisors participating. The conversation touched upon preparations for the upcoming "Baghdad-2023" conference, which aims to promote economic integration and regional cooperation. They also discussed Macron's upcoming official visit to Baghdad.

The phone call took place shortly after the announcement of the death of a member of the French special forces during an operation against jihadist movements in support of the Iraqi army. Four other French soldiers were injured in the same operation.

Previously, two French soldiers had been killed under different circumstances in August. This conversation highlights the significant engagement of both countries in the global fight against terrorism, particularly as France's military involvement in the region has resulted in casualties. It solidifies their determination to further strengthen strategic relations across various sectors and underscores the importance of international cooperation in the ongoing battle against extremist groups like ISIS.
