France’s President Emmanuel Macron said the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) will grant aid worth 34 million euros to the city of Goma, which has been affected by the actions of the rebel movements.

Macron indicated that those movements have agreed to a cease-fire starting next Tuesday.

the French newspaper "Le Figaro" reported that the French president mentioned, during a press conference with President of the DRC Felix Tshisekedi on Saturday, that all movements provided clear support for the ceasefire next Tuesday, according to the schedule brokered by Angola.

The European Union announced today that it will also allocate around €47 million to be channeled through humanitarian partners to meet urgent needs such as nutrition, health care, shelter, and water for the city of Goma, in eastern DRC.

The "March 23 Movement", also known by its acronym "M23", and its members belong to the Tutsi ethnicity. At the end of last year, it resumed fighting, accusing Kinshasa of not honoring agreements to reintegrate its fighters.

Macron began his African tour at the beginning of this month, starting with a visit to Gabon, where he participated in the One Forest Summit on March 1 and 2, and then went to the Angolan capital, Luanda, to celebrate the beginning of the Franco-Angolan partnership in the field of agriculture.

On March 3 and 4, he visited the Republic of the Congo and Kinshasa, the capital of DR Congo.
