French President Emmanuel Macron underlined the importance that Russia is not humiliated so that a diplomatic solution can be found when the fighting in Ukraine stops.
In press remarks, Macron said that he believed that Paris would play a mediating role to end the conflict in Ukraine.
"We must not humiliate Russia so that the day when the fighting stops we can build an exit ramp through diplomatic means," he said, adding, "I am convinced that it is France's role to be a mediating power."
It is worth mentioning that, the French President has sought to maintain dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin since the start of the war in Ukraine in February.
Macron's stance has been repeatedly criticized by some partners in Eastern Europe and the Baltic region, as they see it as undermining efforts to pressure Putin to come to the negotiating table.
Macron has been speaking with Putin regularly since the beginning of the war as part of efforts to reach a ceasefire and start significant negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow.
