French President Emmanuel Macron held a telephone conversation with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, covering several key issues, most notably the situation in the Middle East.
In a post on the "X" platform today, Saturday, Macron explained that France and Turkey have called for the respect and implementation of a ceasefire in Lebanon, as well as ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
He also emphasized the necessity of reaching a robust and lasting diplomatic solution.
The call further addressed the situation in Ukraine and joint efforts within the "Coalition of Volunteers" to pursue a just and lasting peace. This pursuit is aligned with the principles of the UN Charter and based on strong security guarantees for Ukraine.
Particularly in light of the European Political Community summit to be held in Yerevan on May 4, Macron stressed France's support for the peace process in the South Caucasus.
He noted that this process should allow the region to open a new chapter characterized by open borders and enhanced regional cooperation.
Moreover, both leaders agreed on the importance of continuing to deepen dialogue and strengthening bilateral cooperation between France and Turkey.
