French President Emmanuel Macron accused his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, of breaching his pledges and violating the outcomes of the "Berlin Conference" on Libya, by sending fighters and warships to support the Government of National Accord (GNA) of Libya, headed by Fayez al-Sarrag.
This came during Macron meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at Élysée Palace.
He added that the Turkish ships "transport Syrian mercenaries to Libyan territory ... which clearly violates what President Erdogan pledged at the Berlin conference, thus, he failed to keep his words."
The French president added that what Turkey is doing "threatens the security of all Europeans and even the people of Africa's Sahel region countries.
He went on to condemn "in the strongest terms" the agreement signed between the GNA and Turkey.
It is worth mentioning that, an international conference on Libya was recently held in Germany’s capital Berlin in an attempt to pave the way for a lasting settlement in war-torn Libya.
Participants in the Berlin conference agreed on limiting foreign interference in Libya and continuing the arms embargo on the North African country, pressing for launching a new political process that puts an end to the ongoing conflict.
The attending parties affirmed their commitment to supporting the Libyan people in their endeavors to address all problems related to government structure and security.
