Mohamed Maait, Minister of Finance, said that the new fees imposed on gasoline and diesel, estimated at 30 piastres per liter, will not effect current prices.

The Minister of Finance said the current price still provides reduction for the citizen and provides revenues for the public treasury, noting that if a cut in gasoline prices amount for 55 piastres, 25 pt. will be cut for citizens and 30 pt. will be placed in the treasury.

This came during a meeting of the Parliament’s Planning and Budgeting Committee on Sunday to discuss a draft law submitted by the government on fees for developing state resources.

Meantime, Maait stressed that due to the current drop in oil prices worldwide, the treasury will be able to collect the new fees without raising the price of gasoline for citizens.

Maait added that there has been a dual reduction in the value of gasoline by 50 pt., pointing out that the government will work on maintaining the price of diesel, while guaranteeing additional revenue for the public treasury.

He noted that with regard to the current oil prices there was space for reducing the price of gasoline for  citizens and provide revenues for the treasury at the same time.

He added that with regard to oil prices at the rates of global economic growth, the level of gasoline prices will be exceptional, especially since the growth rates are negative in all countries of the world.
